Should Scientific Research Handled by Government?

If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?

It is undeniable that scientific research is important for a country's development in modern era. According to what people assume, scentific research must be managed and administered by government. Others consider company and institution should be given their own freedom in doing research. This essay will explain whether scientific research is solely done by government or got along with private corporations.

Nowadayas, people know that the scope of scientific research is diverse and wide. The private companies studing, learning, and managing scientific reseach could cover up some researchers which are not carried out by the government. For example, Thomas Alva Edison, an individual inventor, has greatly contributed to the world by his invention in terms of the bulb light, motion pictures, phonograph, and so on. These inventions have helped human kind to do activities easier than traditional era. In addition, we should notice that goverment not only focus to scientific research, but also any other essential things suc as economy, politic, health, and so on. If they put too much focus on scientific research, the country's development might not be balanced due to lack of attention on other essential issues. That is why the private companies presented in this world are necessary to help government duties and responsibilities easier.

On the other hand, some people agree that scientific research should be handled only by government. To begin with, scientific research carried out by government has to be people-driven oriented. As a result, they must have transparency and accountability in their progress. In contrast, private organizations sometimes are money oriented instead of people-driven oriented. Few of them might not care about people needs and safety. They probably only do any researches which provide a lot of money even the researches that they have done are dangerous. For instance, in several countries, their governments decide to do scientific reserch by their owns, but other countries might consider to give private companies freedom in doing any researches including weapons or dangerous medicines and drugs. If people give them privilege to do any researches without limitation, they can threaten the world peace and conduct destructions in this world.

In conclusion, it is necessary for private companies should be given freedom in doing scientific research as long as provided by sufficient and proper monitoring from the government.
